Missions

Research

The IBS studies the links between protein structure and function. It has its own biological research themes, maintains a comprehensive series of experimental platforms and undertakes technical innovation.

The influence of the Institute is reflected by publications in the best journals, patents, software development, organization of scientific meetings and collaborations with many French and International laboratories.

Hosting of scientists

The IBS is located in the city of Grenoble at the heart of the French Alps and is close to large-scale scientific facilities, such as the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the High Flux Reactor of the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL). As such, the IBS constitutes a privileged centre for welcoming biologists and other scientists who conduct experiments on these instruments.

Training of young researchers

The institute is a joint research unit of Grenoble’s Joseph Fourier University. Our scientists are actively involved in teaching and train young researchers in their laboratories.
