LMES biological systems

Presentation of biological systems

The LMES has a FEG electron cryomicroscope (JEOL 2010F). This microscope is dedicated to collect images of biological structures to sub-nanometric resolutions (better than 8-9 Å) . The laboratory also has a Philips CM12 microscope (which is freely available to IBS people) and which can be used to observe biological macromolecular complexes by negative-stain. The third LMES electron microscope is a Philips CM200 cryomicroscope used routinely to find optimal freezing conditions of the biological specimen. The microscopes are accessible to people outside IBS upon request.

Three main biological topics are developed within the LMES :

• Structure of Virus
• Microtubules and associated proteins
• 3D structure of macromolecular assemblies

The IBS offers to the PSB members a negative staining quality control platform
