Cleavage of p21/WAF1/CIP1 by proteinase 3 modulates differentiation of a monocytic cell line. Molecular analysis of the cleavage site.

It has been recently demonstrated that proteinase 3, a neutrophil-derived serine protease considered as a microbicidal protein, had the ability to cleave the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, p21/waf1. Thus, the couple proteinase 3 and p21 appeared to be crucial in the control of myeloid proliferation and differentiation, with potential involvement in leukemia.
