Biological systems

Since February 2010, the group has a new FEG electron cryo-microscope (POLARA FEI 300 kV). Because of the installation of the state of the art camera with a direct electron detection (K2 summit) in 2014, this microscope allows collecting images of biological structures to quasi-atomic resolutions. The group also has a new Tecnai12 microscope (FEI) which can be used to observe biological macromolecular complexes by negative-stain. The third electron microscope is a Tecnai F20 cryomicroscope (FEI FEG 200 kV) used routinely to find optimal freezing conditions of the biological specimen. The microscopes are accessible to people outside IBS upon request.
