Recruitment of the future Director of the Institut de Biologie Structurale

The Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS) in Grenoble, France, is currently seeking a Director to lead its upcoming national multi-annual plan (HCERES wave A, 2027-2031). We are looking for an individual with a distinguished international reputation in the field of structural biology who possesses outstanding leadership and management skills. The ideal candidate will be able to leverage the Institute’s state-of-the-art facilities to develop their own research activity.

Situated on the European Photon and Neutron (EPN) campus in Grenoble adjacent to three in-ternational scientific institutes (ESRF, ILL and EMBL), the IBS is a joint unit of the CEA, CNRS, and Université Grenoble Alpes. As a renowned player in integrated structural biology, the insti-tute fulfils multiple roles, functioning as a research centre, technical platform, user facility, and scientific training site. Our commitment lies in pushing the boundaries of structural biology re-search, a pivotal field for deciphering fundamental biological processes.

The incoming Director will be tasked with crafting and executing a comprehensive forward-thinking strategy aimed at strengthening the IBS’s global standing and fostering its future growth. We seek an individual with a strong background in research and personnel management, adept at decision-making, and possessing a nuanced understanding of the French academic research landscape, its organization, and operational dynamics. Proficiency in both French and English is essential.

First selection phase :

Applications received at this stage will be treated confidentially by the IBS Director search committee.

Second selection phase :
Candidates shortlisted in the first phase will be invited to send a proposal detailing their leader-ship project for the IBS (5 pages maximum), a description of their research activities (3 pages maximum), and a list of publications to : ibs.comite.proposition.DU@ibs.fr no later than 31/05/2024.
