My research focuses on the organization and repair of DNA in humans and in the highly radiation resistant bacterium, Deinococcus radiodurans, that represents an excellent model for such a study. It was during my post-doc at ESRF that I discovered this remarkable bacterium and became interested in DNA repair pathways. In 2011, I joined the IBS to set up my team with the support of an ATIP-Avenir grant. Today, the team uses a multi-scale integrated structural biology approach, combining biochemistry, protein crystallography and fluorescence microscopy, to study the dynamics and molecular mechanisms involved in bacterial nucleoid organisation and in DNA damage recognition and repair. We are also interested in the role of DNA repair enzymes in the development of resistance to anti-cancer agents.
