About Grenoble

Capital of the French Alps, Grenoble is exceptionally well situated at the foot of three mountain ranges and offers many possibilities for cultural, outdoor and sporting activities throughout the year. International and national airports are close by, and Paris is only three hours away by the TGV rail link.
Grenoble, with a population of about 158,000, is at the centre of an extended urban area with a total population of about 560,000. The city hosts a variety of festivals, exhibitions, shows etc. at different periods of the year.

Local economy

The economic and industrial activity of Grenoble is based to a large extent on close contacts between industry, research and academia. Many international firms are active in the region. With 25,000 research oriented jobs, Grenoble is the most important scientific centre in France outside of the Greater-Paris conurbation. It has the third largest university in France.
