Histone proteins play a critical role in packaging genomic DNA and in epigenetic signalling. Since their discovery nearly 150 years ago, several histone variants have been identified and shown to play a vital role in various DNA-based transactions. Although nearly identical, histone H3.1 and histone H3.3 are highly conserved throughout evolution and contribute to different epigenetic signalling events.
I will present the results showing the structural underpinnings underlying the recognition and methylation of histone H3.1.
