Group leader: Dominique Bourgeois

The group was created through a bottom-up approach, bringing together a methodology-driven team (PIXEL), a biology-driven team (GenOM) and the cell-imaging platform of IBS (M4D) to create a real synergy with tight interactions of mutual benefits.

We are interested in cellular responses to stresses such as UV and ionizing radiation and one of our favorite model organisms is Deinococcus radiodurans, a fascinating bacterium with exceptional radiation-resistance capability. We study its remarkable DNA repair machinery and investigate the changes in cell and nucleoid morphology occurring under normal and stress conditions. We also investigate stress response mechanisms in eukaryotic cells, notably in the contexts of cancer and apoptosis. This biological research is tightly intertwined with methodological developments in the fields of fluorescent protein research and advanced fluorescence microscopy, notably single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM). These developments are of direct benefit to the M4D platform and its users.
