In 2006, Pierre Parot and Jean-Luc Pellequer created AFMBioMed, a scientific organization for international conferences on the use of atomic force microscopy in nanomedicine and life sciences. The genesis and development of AFMBioMed are described in the editorial of the 15 years of its existence.

- 2013 : 5th AFMBioMed international conference was organized at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, China (local chair : Jun Hu, Jiao Tong University). Special issue of the Journal of Molecular Recognition.
